Parent Family Engagement Plan
2018-2019
2018-2019
The stakeholders of Addeliar Guy Elementary School believe that parent involvement is a vital component in the education process and that parent involvement and support translate into increased student achievement. Parents are valued at Guy and therefore, the following Parent Family Engagement Policy will be implemented:
The Parent Family Engagement Policy (PFEP) has been jointly developed and agreed upon by the Addeliar Guy Elementary School and parents of students served in the school pursuant to Title I. Addeliar Guy Elementary School will convene an annual meeting in the Fall, at a convenient time for parents, to evaluate this policy. In order to accommodate parents, this meeting will be held after morning drop-off, on October 12, 2018 at 9:15am. The entire Guy community will gain access to the PFEP via Parent Link and a posting on the school website. The school’s Parent Family Engagement Policy, developed by parents and educators, will be distributed in an understandable and uniform format and to the extent practicable, in a language parents can understand. The Parent Family Engagement Policy and the annual Title I PowerPoint will also be made available to the community through the school’s website. Addeliar Guy Elementary School will involve parents in SOT and PTA monthly meetings in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in the planning, review and improvement of Title I programs, School Performance Plan, and Parent Family Engagement Policy.
Guy Elementary School had 112 parents participate in the District-Wide Parent Survey an increase of 96 parents for the 2018 District-Wide Parent Survey. Overall, the parents are satisfied with the school environment safety of the school, the physical building, and staff of Guy Elementary School. We used the results to identify strengths and areas in need of improvement as we developed our budgets. The results indicated that 12% of the respondents had concerns with how fundraising monies are used. Buckets of money, which will include how fundraising monies are spent, will be explained and discussed during SOT meetings throughout the year. We plan to increase participation using Class DOJO, by sending flyers, placing information on the school website, and utilizing the school marquee.
The Educational Involvement Accords are integrated into the registration process through Infinite Campus. Parents must review Accords prior to completing their child’s registration. Administrators and teachers will have access to the Accords and use them to develop expectations and objectives for meaningful parent and family engagement, in addition to conferences. The Accords are available whenever they are needed.
The administration and staff at Addeliar Guy Elementary will:
>Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS), state and local assessments, the requirements of Title I, how to monitor their student’s academic progress, and how to work with the school staff to improve the achievement of the students through parent meetings, academic nights, Results Week, and PTA and SOT monthly meetings.
>Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment enabling students to meet NVACS.
>Offer parent involvement activities in the school that will include opportunities for parents to be involved in the following school activities:
*Parent/Teacher Conferences
*Volunteering within the school and identified classrooms
*Spring Into Learning Academic Night
*Parent Teacher Association
*Annual Title 1 Review and Planning meeting
*Appointments made with teachers and administrators per parent request.
*Family and Community Engagement Services events, FACES
During Spring Into Learning, parents will be provided with materials and training to help them work with their children to improve student achievement and foster parental involvement. In addition, access to educational resources for parents to use when working with their children will be provided through the school website.
The family plays a primary role in a child’s education and schools must respect and honor traditions and activities unique to a community’s cultural practices and beliefs. With regard to professional development, the administration will, with the assistance of parents, educate teachers and other staff in the value and utility of contribution of parents; how to reach out, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners; and implement and coordinate ongoing parent programs. This year, Guy Elementary will conduct parent trainings through F.A.C.E.S. and Read By Grade Three. These trainings will focus on language development in children, and the importance of family involvement through literacy. Additional parent trainings, such as Spring Into Learning, will facilitate activities that engage families in the direct learning of their children.
Communication between school and home is an important and ongoing commitment. We work to ensure that all information provided to families about school programs, activities, community resources, and student progress. Communication made by notices, memos, phone calls, report cards, conferences, open-house nights, ParentLink, and parent meetings, is communicated in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents can understand. Staff members are routinely available to assist with translating parent notes and phone calls. Additional communication methods include classroom newsletters, the school website, Class Dojo, Infinite Campus, and Family Engagement events.
Schools and parents will cultivate relationships with additional members of the community in order to promote and effectively increase educational opportunities for children. Together, parents, educators and community members will join efforts toward identifying and promoting community resources and innovative programs such as Truancy Diversion Program (TDP), Cohort C resources, and FACES for strengthening schools, families and student learning.
Addeliar Guy Elementary School will provide reasonable support for parental involvement through an open door policy with administration and translation services. Parents are also invited to monthly SOT and PTA meetings.
